The foundation has a four-fold mission: - To provide the community with an educational medicinal garden located in old town Fort Collins at 315 Canyon Ave. The garden will be in the form of a Medicine Wheel. Planted in this garden will be a variety of plants that have significant medicinal properties used for healing. The medicine Wheel also honors our land and holds and intention of peace.
- To provide funding for a community based retreat center. This will be a center where emphasis on healthy life style practices such as yoga, meditation detoxification and healthy foods and cooking will be taught.
- To provided funding for research and education for integrative medicine.
- To assist funding to patients In need of integrative medicine
Phase 1 of the healing gardens non-profit foundation is well on its way. The development of an educational medicinal garden in old town fort Collins has completed all of the hardscape and design work. This spring we will organize an open house to educate and inspire the community about the gardens. The planting will begin. The intention of the garden is to teach our community where we derive our medicine. It is in the form of a medicine wheel, which the Native Americans use to honor our land and the plants that grow. The vision is to grow this garden together as a community.
In the center of the medicine wheel there is a walking labyrinth to teach the community about meditation. Embracing the medicine wheel are three smaller gardens honoring the three phases of life: the seedling garden (childhood), the bountiful garden (fertility) and the sage garden (elders). These three gardens will bring together children, adults, elders and healing practitioners from many disciplines. We will create a mentoring program between the youth and the elders in our community as well as a garden therapy program.
The garden will be declared a national site of Promise in accordance with America’s Promise founded in 1997 at the Presidents summit for America’s future. The youth of our community will benefit by fulfilling all five promises of Americas and Larimer’s promise a crusade for our youth see www.americaspromise.org for more information about this vision.
The entire community will benefit through the experience of growing and learning about medicinal plants, being involved in a mentoring program, interpretive signs on the plants and participating in the classes led by healing practitioners i.e. walking meditation, garden therapy and medicinal classes. The intention of the project is to offer educational programs open to the community at all income levels.
Already in the development of this project thus far we have involved many organizations and local businesses to the vision. Just to acknowledge a few the hard work and design was donated by a very prominent landscaper in our community Connie Zybko at Real dirt. The hardscape was placed and significant donations were provided by aquascapes. Multiple other business have provided donations including New Belgium Brewery, Odell's Brewery, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Fossil Creek Nursery, Bath Nursery, and others. Jacqueline Fields M.D. has been a practicing physician for 13 years and is board certified in both family practice and holistic medicine. She trained with Dr. Andrew Wiel and traveled the world working with indigenous tribes. After her residency at Poudre Valley Hospital, she helped create the first integrative medicine clinic here in Fort Collins. After 6 years, Dr. Fields left to pursue her personal vision for a healing center. She currently owns and leads The Healing Gardens Health Center a holistic health center. This also includes Dr Annette Vanbalen M.D. who is also a licensed medical acupuncturist. Other integrative modalities at the center include physical therapy massage therapy, homeopathic medicine, herbal medicine, Hakomi therapy, holistic psychotherapy and bioenergetics. Dr Fields also operates the healing gardens medicinal store. This is to provide physician directed high quality supplements, herbs, homeopathic remedies and medical foods with quality assurance. She also has created Dr. Fields sacred skin, which is an all-natural skin line and is registered with safe cosmetics—see web sites. Finally she created and runs the Healing Gardens Non-profit foundation through Poudre Valley Hospital.

. There are many ways to contribute to the vision. Donations can be made to us or to Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation Healing Gardens Fund. GoWest donated great T-Shirts with our logo which you can purchase for $10.00 in our Medicinal Store to benefit the cause. Profits of Dr. Fields' Sacred Skin go towards the foundation. Kiri Saftler, a local artist creates beautiful markers for the garden that you can personalize. Purchase these directly from Kiri and she will donate the proceeds to us. We are planning an open house in the Spring as well as a "planting party" for the gardens. We will keep you updated as those dates arrive. For More Information Contact:
