The Healing Gardens Non-Profit Fund through Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation

The Four-Fold Mission

gardensnonprofit2The First Mission:
To provide the community with an educational medicinal garden located in old town Fort Collins at 315 Canyon Ave. The garden is in the form of a Medicine Wheel. Planted in this garden will be a variety of plants that have significant medicinal properties used for healing. The medicine Wheel also honors our land and holds and intention of peace.

The Second Mission
To provide funding for a community based living arts center at 412 West Olive Street, across the street from The Healing Gardens. This center will provide healthy life style practices such as yoga, meditation, detoxification, and nutrition, natural healing, and cooking classes.

The Third Mission:
To provided funding for research and education in integrative medicine.

The Fourth Mission:
To assist funding to patients in need of integrative medicine.

Phase 1 & 2 of the healing gardens non-profit foundation is well on its way. All of the hardscape and design work of the educational medicinal garden in old town fort Collins has been completed. The intention of the garden is to teach our community where we derive our medicine. The Medicine Wheel is significant as Native Americans used the shape to honor their land and the plants that grew in it. The vision is to grow the garden together as a community.

In the center of the medicine wheel there is a walking labyrinth to teach the community about meditation. Embracing the medicine wheel are three smaller gardens honoring the three phases of life: the seedling garden (childhood), the bountiful garden (fertility) and the sage garden (elders). These three gardens will bring together children, adults, elders, and healing practitioners from many disciplines. We will create a mentoring program between the youth and the elders in our community as well as a garden therapy program. The garden will be declared a National Site of Promise in accordance with America’s Promise founded in 1997 by Gen. Colin Powell at the president’s summit for America’s future. Please refer to www.americaspromise.org for more information.

The entire community will benefit from the garden through the experience of growing and learning about medicinal plants, being involved in mentoring programs, and participating in classes led by healing practitioners. Some examples of classes are: walking meditation, garden therapy, detoxification classes and plants as medicine. The intention of the project is to offer educational programs that are open to all income levels of our community.
